Three big lotto prizes still unclaimed; First claim deadline approaches in November (Pierre) – The South Dakota Lottery is waiting for three big lotto winners to come forward, and time is running short to claim the first of the three prizes. A Dakota Cash ticket worth $170,693 is set to expire Monday, November 27. The ticket, sold in Rapid City, matched all five numbers to win the jackpot for the May 31 drawing. The second big-prize ticket expires one month later. A $200,000 Powerball ticket, sold in Spearfish, matched all five white balls, but not the red Powerball in the July 1 drawing. That ticket expires Thursday, December 28. The final big ticket, another Dakota Cash jackpot winner, is worth $210,037. That ticket, sold in Huron, won the September 30 drawing and expires March 29, 2007. Norm Lingle, executive director of the state lottery, said “There’s still time and we look forward to hearing from our winners. But, it may be time for people to check around the house and in the car to see if they have a winning ticket.” The prizes can be claimed at any of the three Lottery offices in Rapid City, Pierre, and Sioux Falls. Lotto prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing. If the prizes go unclaimed, state law requires the money go back to players by funding prizes in subsequent lottery games. Lingle said prizes this big rarely go unclaimed. “In fourteen years, only two Dakota Cash jackpot tickets and two Powerball second prize tickets have gone unclaimed in South Dakota,” he said. A $52,775 Dakota Cash jackpot won on July 15, 2000 and half of a $206,156 Dakota Cash jackpot won November 6, 1993 went unclaimed. Two Powerball second prize tickets, then worth $100,000, went unclaimed from drawings on December 24, 1997 and June 30, 1993.
