Huron co-workers share $100,000 Powerball prize

(Pierre) – Peggy Maas, D’Ann Fromm and Rosanne Schroeder, all of Huron, today claimed a $100,000 Powerball prize they won in the Saturday, January 29 drawing.

The three Wilbrecht Electronics employees have been purchasing tickets together for the past 16 years. Maas, Fromm and Schroeder pool their money to buy three tickets for each drawing, buying advance draw tickets for the month ahead.

“We always save up any winnings and then go to dinner together,” Schroeder said. “We’ve often talked about how exciting it’d be to win big.”

Maas realized their ticket was a winner on Saturday night, but she waited to tell her friends in person as they clocked into work this morning. The trio requested personal leave, clocked out and headed to the Sioux Falls Lottery office to claim their prize.

“It was fun getting the news at work and sharing the excitement with everyone,” Fromm said.

This is the 98th time the $100,000 Powerball prize has been won in South Dakota. The group bought their winning “quick pick” ticket at Fair City Foods in Huron. The store will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

Powerball is played in 27 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The estimated jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing is $18 million.
