Ft. Pierre man wins $100,000 scratch ticket prize;
Sioux Falls woman wins $100,000 Powerball prize

Lottery still waiting for Hot Lotto jackpot winners

(Pierre) – Two $100,000 Lottery prizes were claimed on Thursday, including the top prize in a scratch ticket game and a second prize in Powerball.

William Rose of Ft. Pierre scratched off a $100,000 prize when he stopped at his local grocery store to pick up a newspaper. His $10 Cash Bonanza ticket turned out to be one of the top prize winners in the game.

Rose said he always scratches his tickets at the check-out counter before he leaves the store. “At first I couldn’t tell what I’d won,” he said. “I just knew it was worth over $100.” With the help of the store’s clerks, Rose determined his ticket was a $100,000 winner. “Everyone was so excited. I’m sure the whole town knows by now.”

Rose purchased the ticket at Sutley’s Market in Ft. Pierre. The store will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the top prize ticket.

Bonnie Gunnink of Sioux Falls claimed a $100,000 Powerball prize she won in the Saturday, June 18 drawing by matching the five white ball numbers, but not the red Powerball number.

Gunnink checked her ticket at a retail location Wednesday night, but didn’t know how much she’d won. The message on the terminal simply said the prize must be paid by the Lottery. “I don’t have a computer at home, so I couldn’t check the numbers right away,” she said. Although her win has yet to completely sink in, Gunnink said she might use some of her winnings to buy a home computer.

This is the 99th time the $100,000 Powerball prize has been won in South Dakota. Gunnink bought the winning quick pick ticket at the Gas Stop on 41st Street in Sioux Falls. The store will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

The Lottery has not yet heard anything further from the apparent winner of the $9,130,000 Hot Lotto jackpot. That prize was won on June 15 by a ticket sold in Sioux Falls. Lotto prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing in which the prize was won.
